Join Us for a Riverfront Cleanup at Fort Gibson Dam!
We’re excited to announce our upcoming Riverfront Cleanup Project happening this coming weekend, May 31, 2025, at the Fort Gibson Dam—and we’d love for you to be a part of it!
With permission and support from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, our ministry is organizing a community cleanup event focused on environmental awareness, public safety, and honoring the natural beauty of our local waterways. We will also be collecting items for a found object art project to fundraise and increase awareness. We hope you'll take part in this too.
Why This Matters
Oklahoma’s waterways might not always be picture-perfect, but that’s exactly why we’re stepping up. The area on the west side, north of the dam, from the boat ramp to the parking area is visited daily by families, hikers, fishers, and wildlife—and unfortunately, it’s also littered with trash: plastic bags, glass bottles, tangled fishing lines, and sharp hooks that pose real hazards.
This isn’t just about keeping things tidy—it’s about protecting both people and wildlife.
Trash in these areas can cause serious injury to visitors and be fatal to animals who get tangled or ingest it. It’s time to make a change—and it starts with us.
Event Details:
What: Riverfront Cleanup at Fort Gibson Dam
When: May 31, 2025 , 10 AM - 12:00 PM
Where: Fort Gibson Dam, North West (Lakeside) at the parking area past the boat ramp.
Who: Open to all volunteers—families, individuals, and groups welcome!
Bring: Gloves, trash bags, grabbers (if you have them), water, and sturdy shoes
We’ll also be filming a short awareness video during the cleanup to help educate others on the environmental and safety concerns surrounding litter in our parks and waterways. From some of the items we find on the shoreline we will use them in a free upcoming class to create found object art. If you’d like to participate in the video or share your thoughts on camera, let us know!
How You Can Get Involved:
Please contact us via phone at (918) 840-6750 to let us know you're coming. We have to send you a sign up sheet required by the Army Corps of Engineers in order to participate.
Come out and lend a hand!
Share this event with friends, family, or on social media.
Bring reusable containers (or something to stash found objects in) and extra trash bags to collect litter as you go.
Help us show the community that caring for nature is a shared responsibility.
Let’s come together to do something good, something needed, and something meaningful. Let’s take pride in our parks. Let’s protect our rivers. And let’s work together to turn our shared spaces into places we’re proud to call home and create some art while we're at it.
We hope to see you there!
